"The Haiti Container Wish List *** CAN YOU HELP? ***

The goal of the Joy and Hope of Haiti volunteer group is to send a 40 foot container filled with school construction supplies, medical supplies and items Haitian families desperately need once per year. The contents shall be distributed where we can meet the greatest need and generate the most benefit. Please help us collect goods. Following is a guide that will help you spread the word about the need of our Haitian friends. The list takes into account container size plus Haiti’s climate and cultural differences and we encourage you to keep it handy for easy reference.

Construction Supply Needs

300 sheets at 18' white white 26 gauge prepainted metal roofing
200 pieces 2 x 6 x 16 pressure treated wood
200 pieces 2 x 4 x 10 pressure treated wood
200 pieces 2 x 4 x 16 pressure treated wood
200 pieces2 x 4 x 12 pressure treated wood
7 rolls double bubble roof insulation (8' x 125' per roll)
200 lbs 1-1/2 inch roofing nails
14,000 pieces white white wood grips

Other Construction Supply Needs

New or next to new (not rusty): Hammers, measuring tapes, work gloves, pails, nails, screws, paint brushes, paint rollers, trays, standard height steel doors with matching frames and locks for each school (new), white water based paint.

School Supplies

- Any and all school supplies for students and teachers

Specific requests:

- pencils, pens, pencil sharpeners - desk top and hand held, erasers, staples/staplers, chalk and chalkboard erasers, glue - bottles and sticks, coloured construction paper, tape, back packs, scissors for teachers and students, resources of pictures, soccer balls and inflating devices.

**No limits** Always can use as many schools supplies as can be collected and sent.

- Blackboard paint White water based paint, paint brushes, rollers, paint trays, handles.

Please suspend until further notice collecting French books for Starfish Kids school program** We have received an incredible donation that has supplied all of the needs for the moment.

Sewing Supplies

- Treadle sewing machines

**NOTE**Please suspend until further notice collecting of electric sewing machines. We have supplied as many as are needed at the moment* - hydro service is very sporadic and unpredictable right now.

- Bolts or pieces of material (minimum 1 metre) of cotton material (plain and patterned)

- 100% cotton fabric for quilting and batting

- All notions for sewing machines and hand sewing - thread, sewing machine needles and hand needles, buttons, zippers, scissors, measuring tapes, embroidery thread.

Personal Hygiene Needs

Soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, cloth diapers, safety pins, baby receiving blankets, hairbrushes, combs, hair bobbles, small elastics. GREAT NEED: Toothbrushes (5,000 each year)

Medical Equipment Needs (*denotes most wanted items)

EKG machines, Ultrasound machine, Autoclave or steam sterilizer,”table-top” or “bed –side’’ needle incinerator, Mammography machine, Filing cabinets, Microscope for laboratory, medical books-particularly up-to date-pocketsize drug books, nebulizer, masks, *bin-liners/ large heavy duty plastic bags (urgent need), Latex Gloves- medium size used most but also small and large used, blood pressure cuffs, *auriscopes/Otoscopes and ophthalmoscopes, stethoscopes, thermometers-non-mercury, **hand-held Doppler’s-for detecting fetal heart rate**, “step-on” scales for adults, scales for babies, *large medicine bottles-used to dispense liquid medicines, cloth baby diapers, baby clothes, ear irrigation syringes, sterile applicators/ Q-tips, tongue depressors, soap, hand-sterilizer, adhesive tape, betadine solution, betadine/alcohol swabs.

100 wall hooks and hardware, non-violent movies (e.g. veggietales, Disney cartoons), educational programs, instructional programs, musical cds, all suitable for children from age 4 to early teen - in VHS, DVD, CD forms (we suggest media be in French).

For Vehicles

Wheel bearing greases, Fuel injector cleaner, Fuel conditioner, Engine stop-leak, Crank case cleaner

Other Needs

- 4 to 5 round tables (collapsible)

- 5 rectangle tables (collapsible)

- 4 white board/marker boards

- 10 bulletin boards

- 5 filing cabinets

- Metal shelving for library books
