dinner/live and silent auction
for the Joy and Hope of Haiti

To raise funds for the project this year, a Live and Silent Auction for the Joy and Hope of Haiti will be held on Thursday, May 26th, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Carmen's Banquet Centre, 1520 Stone Church Road East, Hamilton. The evening will include a five course sit down meal and have approx. 400 items available in the Silent Auction, generously donated by businesses and friends in our community. This event has become one of Hamilton's largest social events in the Spring and we are sure you will want to participate.

The success of our dinner and auction depends on the partnership and cooperation of businesses and individuals in our surrounding community. We would like to thank all the donors and corporations who support our auction each year through ticket purchases and items/services donated for our event.

If you cannot attend this event on May 26th, 2011 but would like to make a cash donation, a charitable tax receipt will be issued to you. Inquiries about cash donations can be forwarded to Ron North at ron.north@sympatico.ca or Cathy Zavitz at czavitz@mfmcanada.ca, telephone: 905-522-5494 (toll free: 1-800-784-7077). You may wish to support the project in other ways, including donating items or services which can be auctioned off that evening. Project for 2010

Project 2010

We fundraised for, funded and sent teams to help construct this building for an elementary school. We are so encouraged by hearing our Haitian friends dream bigger dreams and we are privileged to come alongside them by helping construct the second floor for a vocational training school to help equip Haitians with practical and marketable skills. This vocational school, once operational, will aim to improve the living conditions of vulnerable Haitians by:

  • Addressing the poverty in Haiti in a holistic way
  • Giving the people of Haiti the tools they need such as Biblically based business knowledge and access to small loans so they can be competitive in the local job market
  • Providing Biblically-based business training to help Haitians start small businesses and begin to rebuild their future
  • Engaging the Haitian church to help in equipping people in poverty, not only in addressing their spiritual needs but also to address their physical needs
  • Exposing and equipping students to academic, technical, entrepreneurial and employability skills necessary for a successful work life
  • reating the necessary synergies to link training and employment
  • Establishing industry-driven curriculum models in key sectors of the economy
  • Equipping young people with the technical/generic and marketable skills that employers require
  • Providing a platform for sustainable international partnerships that increases the effectiveness and competiveness of the Haitian market

This is a snapshot of an exciting project we are pleased to invest our fundraising dollars in. Click on this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD8wVODk780.

Congratulations To...Florence Couture  Florence Couture

Florence Couture has been selected as a recipient of our Employee Spirit Award under the Excellence Category.

Excellence - "For employees who achieve or complete specific goals or projects that are substantially beyond their normal job requirements. Acquiring additional skills, academic qualifications, certification or training that is significant benefit to the corporation, or leadership in a local, national or international professional organization that promotes the interests and image of the city."

Florence is deeply involved with the Joy and Hope of Haiti Project. In 1994 Florence was elected to organize and Chair the first fund raising auction for the children of Haiti. That year, 225 people attended the event and approximately $23,000 was raised. Sixteen years later, Florence is still organizing and Chairing this wonderful event with the most recent being held on May 28, 2009. Since 1994, the size of the event has grown, with attendance now running at 700 people, and the money raised has been well over $125,000 at each auction.

As the event has grown, so has the amount of work involved. Florence uses vacation days in order to prepare and "clean up" after each auction, and, after one auction is done, Florence and her team of volunteers start to prepare for the next. To date approximately $1.2 million has been raised for the children of Haiti. Great things have been done with the money. These good works could not be done without people like Florence who continually volunteer their talent, time and effort. Sixteen years of volunteering with one organization is a substantial commitment.

Thank you Florence for the personal excellence you have shown in achieving, maintaining and surpassing the original goal of a successful auction for Joy and Hope of Haiti Project.
